MAESHAFN in Mold, Nr Chester is the original home of WOR Events and is where it all started back in the day for Steve and his team.
Last weekend the venue hosted yet another brilliant weekend of riding and racing fun on two wheels as the MXC Series rd 2 took place on the brilliant Flintshire mountain course. A 4-mile lap of mixed mx and enduro type terrain was demanding and challenging as always but as ever was enjoyable and satisfying as the flowing and fast berms and whoops where mixed with tricky woods and stony climbs and drops, all in all a cracking mix and everything that Maeshafn is about.
The kids started the day’s action with a 1.5hr race in the morning. A big 3-mile lap was on offer for the kids as Steve Ireland continues to believe in providing and delivering the juniors with "proper" enduro tracks, not just flat out, flat field stuff like is so much of the other club’s stuff out there. All of the kids did brilliantly, and the 5 age group classes covered the complete range of junior racers.
Jack Maudsley topped the very small and poorly supported Auto class with a brilliant 9 laps to his credit.
Jack Brooks continues his development and once again dominated the 7-8-year-old group on 11 laps. Bailey Holmes was 2nd with Charlie Walker in 3rd.
The little star that is Jayden Jones was once again the man to beat in the 9/10's as completed 13 laps and took a 3rd overall in the entire race. Runner Up was Mason Hughes with Harri Farrell in a solid 3rd.
Jake Willis is a really an improving rider too and his 1st place in the 11/12's showed that with 12 laps. Ryan Griffiths and Loryn Tyrer in 2nd and 3rd spot.
Ryan Maudsley won the 13/14yrs group and topped the event with a great ride and showed along with Lewis Hurdsman in 2nd place that they are nearly ready to tackle adult racing. Colby Moorcroft did superbly to grab his first podium at WOR.
1pm in the afternoon saw the adults take to the line, not a busy line up by any means as this time of year always shows at WOR Events but a quality standard of rider non the least and a superb 1 hr and 45 minutes of racing.
GasGas UK rider Gethin Humphreys was flying out in front and won the event in his usual fast and smooth way. Robert Francom rode very well to take the Runners Up spot and Jamie Dilworth kept hold of third place in the Experts even after running onto reserve and struggling to restart the bike for a while. All 3 finishing on 12 laps.
Paul Lightfoot was Top Expert Vet from Anthony Crowe and Neil Crayston.
Clubman Victory was Richard Taylor's on the number 66 bike as he fended off Oliver Jones and Leon Dean in 2nd and 3rd spot respectively. All 3 riders on 11 laps.
Jason Clarke continued his domination of the Over 40 group with solid win over Anthony Foulkes by over 2 and half mins. 3rd was Des Cowley a lap down on 10 laps.
Chris Wagstaff is unstoppable in the Over 50's this year at WOR and he did 12 laps and was a brilliant 4th Overall, showing no signs of slowing down around the demanding Mold mountainside course. Mick Alderson was Runner Up with the 60-year-old Colin Griffiths his usual podium self and age defying performances.
Sam Hughes was 2 minutes ahead of Hayden Rainford as both young riders dominated the Sportsman group. Damian Kozaczka was creditable 3rd place matching the 11 laps of the top two.
Kahlen Tyrer won her first ladies’ class overall from Kaitlin Williams as Runner Up and Molli Lightfoot in 3rd place. Well done girls.
Jaydn Giles was on 10 laps to take the Adult Youth class win from Oli Harley..
Rounding out the classes it was Ben Beesley topping the Novice group from Darren Stephenson with Peter Mellor in 3rd spot.
A cracking days racing in a brilliant atmosphere in warm weather, what more could you want...
A big well done to all and as always, a massive thanks from Steve and the WOR team to all the helpers, staff, medics, caterers, traders, sponsors, landowners and especially the Riders for supporting the event and making it happen.
WOR now move onto to running the exciting new Wirral Beach Races this weekend at New Brighton... Then a small break and it’s into September for the WES rds 9 and 10 followed by a fun Time card Enduro .. ALL HAPPENING!!
