"WOR Events smashed into 2020 last weekend with a superb production of the now Stand alone Iconic Extreme Enduro.. The TOLB.. The Tough One's Little Brother did not disappoint with 3 races in the day .. Catering for Kids, Adults in the Morning race and the better Qualified riders in the PM race...
A very busy Nantmawr Quarry did its usual job of making a fantastic day’s action unfold under cold, but beautiful Blue sky's. A course that was achievable yet challenging and more importantly, enjoyable and not a total bike wrecker was laid in impeccable style from the WOR team. Riders saying it was the best one yet with lots of hard work and effort going into making the quarry look nice and presented professionally. Great work by Steve and the team of Harvey and Josh indeed.
Jayden Jones in the 9/10's was in simply amazing form as he blitzed his way, unchallenged to the class and overall win in the brilliant Kids race that started at 9am for 1.5hrs.. Jones was unstoppable and looks certain to be a superstar of the Future. Runner Up in class was Theo Nicholson and Conner Redman took 3rd..
Charlie Crossland was making his debut from Trials to Enduro and made the transition superbly with a class win in the 11/12's and a great 3rd overall place. Runner Up in class was the super smooth Jake Willis with Nathan Tebay doing brilliant to make the podium.
Jack Brooks continues his winning form as he blasted the 7/8's. These little riders deserve a special mention for their endeavours as the course was most certainly a challenge for the smaller bikes. Runner up was Selbie Crump with Leon Carthy in 3rd spot. Josh Knight had a superb ride on his #199 machine and took second overall behind Jayden Jones and a brilliant 1st in class in the 13/14’s group. Ifan Jones and Rhydian Rees were a a well deserved 2nd and 3rd place respectively.
Steve Ireland has brought a new level to the kids Extreme Enduro scene with this event as his unrivalled knowledge and perfect judgement in plotting these events allowed the kids track to "raise the bar" and upped the level of difficulty the course could offer from seeing how well kids have tackled the previous Kids WOR extreme races..
These are the stars of the future and like with the adult Extreme Enduro scene in the UK, Steve can sit back and enjoy the fact he has been the pioneer and originator of the sport and continues to be with promoting events like this and allowing the Youth to be fully involved and learning... Well done Steve and WOR ...but and even bigger well done to ALL the Kids that took part as they showed amazing skills, determination and guts.
The Adults then took centre stage with a 2hr race, on a much bigger course for the Over 50’s and Sportsman riders etc. Gary McCoy made the long trip from Devon worthwhile as he dominated the race from start to finish, in the Over 50’s and Overall, having an unbeatable ride to a 5-minute advantage over his nearest rival, the ever-green Mark Houson. Both these riders have history at this quarry and enjoy pitting their wits against the natural, manmade and always challenging terrain. 3rd place Over 50’s went to Mark Lewis albeit 2 laps down on the front two.
Sion Evans was riding superb in the Adult Youth class as he took the win by a clear lap from Ash Brightmore and James Elvin and indeed finished a fantastic 3rd overall behind McCoy and Houson.
Top Sportsman was Riley Dennison from Tom Simpson and Ryan Maudsley, with Dennison on 11 laps, he was a lap clear, on paper at least of his challengers.
The Novice Group was won by Chris Burke from Leon Pemberton with Matthew Wilcox in the bronze placing.
1.30pm had the Experts, Clubman and Over 40’s line up for a 2hr battle on a course very similar to the morning one but with one or two more severe Hillclimb’s and challenges thrown in the mix like the big Wagon tyres etc.
Gethin Humphreys on his new 300 Husky from CF Racing was in amazing form as blasted to a start to finish win, almost lapping the entire entry and showing his superb form and speed in this type of terrain and environment. Humphreys nearest rival was another Husky mounted rider, Shane Careless. Careless from South Wales coming up North for his first WOR Event and riding well to take the silver podium placing. Jake Britton was over the moon with his superb 3rd place as he finished on 13 laps to the top two riders 14. One of the pre event favourites , Charlie Frost saw his race over on the first lap as his tyre came off the rim, he did fix it and carry on but all hope of a result was gone.
Mitch Brightmore made it a good day for the family as both brothers, new to Extreme Enduro from Trials took a trophy home. Mitch took the Clubman win by a clear lap and was a fine 4th overall in the final standings. Runner Up Clubman was James Francis with Young Sam Hughes a brilliant 3rd place.
Jason Clarke topped the Over 40’s as he continues to shine, from Gareth Leonard with Nigel Lynn in 3rd place. Leonard doing well to finish after snapping his Chain guide off his Sherco, retring to pits to fix it and then got back out there to finish.
All in all, the riders where superb, the track and event were brilliant and ran like clockwork and the weather was even better. The TOLB is truly and event that stands on its own now as it approaches its 10th edition.
WOR events would like to thank the LANDOWNERS, SPONSORS, CATERERS, MEDICS, STAFF, MEDIA and all other supporters of the WOR Events for making the events and meetings possible. Well done to all.
